The epic fifth series of fantasy drama Merlin continues on BBC One this weekend and ancient prophecies of Mordred weigh heavy on Merlin, for not even he can sway Arthur from his chosen path.

As dawn breaks across the icy tundra, Merlin and Arthur are close to exhaustion. With each tortured step, the fortress of Ismere looms ever nearer and Merlin’s fear intensifies. What game is Mordred playing? And what powerful secrets are Morgana and the druid Ruadan searching for amongst its twisted catacombs?

Arthur’s Bane (Part Two) airs at 8.25pm on Saturday 13th October on BBC One. To whet your appetite, here are ten hints for the episode...

» Somewhat unfairly, Merlin displays an inability to catch once again.

» Camelot’s security falls for the old rolling coin trick.

» Who will wear a vegetable?

» ‘I thought the Druids were a peaceful people?’

» Dinner will be disturbed by ranting and bells.

» No one ever listens to good advice.

» Who will dream of being entwined with a loved one in the darkness?

» ‘I grew up!’

» Both Merlin and Arthur will take a leap of faith.

» Like father, like daughter?

Camelot security falls to the old rolling coin trick.....Dinner will be disturb by ranting and bells....Does his mean that Camelot will be attacked again. Thank god Leon and Elyan is with Gwen but if it is Sefas father coming to save her, what chance do they have.

I read this again and I think I got it: Merlin had to evoke his magic to perform that trick for Annis, so of course he cannot catch,so he will have something thrown at him again and miss as usual....,Camelot security......Sefas father will use that trick to lure the guards away while he breaks her out. Merlin used that trick but he used dice.......wears a veggie...have no idea, probably Merlin.......obviously not all Druids are, we have met a few bad ones already.......the disturbance at dinner is sefa escaping with the help of her father.......no one listens to good advice, I think that is Morgana again, what else is new........The love scene is Gwen dreaming of Arthur......The leap of faith is Merlin and Arthur leaping over the snow covered ledge from the preview......Last but not least is da...da...Morgana and Uther

Here are some more teasers:

“Don’t worry, we’re safe. No harm can come to us now.”
“*****, you have to help me.”
Someone teases Merlin with something tasty.
“Don’t be so quick to judge me.”
“You must remember that there is no greater glory than giving your life for a cause that is right.”
“It’s a dangerous game you’re playing ******.”
****** and ******* have a heart-to-heart.
“You have a bit of carrot in your hair. At least I hope it’s carrot.”
Reunited and it feels so good!
******* goes to ****** and tells *** what ******** **** is.

We find out where Mordred’s allegiances lie. Or do we?
Plenty of Aithusa moments this week and the young dragon is not doing so well
Sefa’s execution is all going to plan
There’s a brief look at Morgana’s prior captivity, and she’s not alone
They both should really beef up their security
Morgana almost replicates a famous line from Obi-Wan in Star Wars
Gaius tells someone other than Merlin that they are playing a dangerous game
Aithusa seems to have lost something
Only one magic air push this week… and some “fun” with a blade
Watch out for carrots
They should have checked the body
We learn more about the Diamair
Someone makes a very surprising move
A momentous moment for Camelot, or a huge mistake?
Arthur’s Bane is revealed, but it is not what you expect

I actually thought the dream of being entwined with a loved was was Merlin dreaming of Freya, but I HOPE it's Arwen-related.

And I agree, the like father like daughter thing is Sefa and her dad, with the question being does Sefa have magic.

"Only one magic air push this week…" Thank God, they really need to get more creative with magical fighting. Really.

And I agree with your above statement, Stacey. Mordred probably "saves Arthur's life" and he knights him, thinking he's good, despite Merlin's warnings.

The not listening to good advice is Arthur not taking Merlin's advice re not making Mordred a knight.

And now that damn song has been in my head for the last hour (Peaches & Herb, for those of you keeping score). Something will replace it soon, no doubt, as I am at work and surrounded by fresh earworm material.

Can't wait for this episode!

Epaws keeping fingers crossed that you are right regarding getting some Arwen this episode. Arthur's bane is probably Arthur. His willingness to see good in people, and then be blindsided when they turn against him. Momentous moment at Camelot or huge mistake? Have to agree that it is Arthur knighting Mordred, the Druid, which will come back to bite him in the ass when Mordred turns on him and sides with Morgana. I must say I am anxious to see how the whole Sefa thing plays out in Camelot, since according spoilers, she is a tool Gwen is using to lure her father to Camelot. Is Gwen's plan to kill him or to get information as to the whereabouts of the missing king and knights of Camelot? Also, how the hell do you contain a wizard with no magic on your side? Hope Gwen's plan doesn't end up with her being made the fool. If Sefa sees her dad killed, will that unleash her magical powers and have her become another magical being who hates the Pendragons and Camelot? Wonder if Gwen's plan is going to lead to more magical beings hating Camelot and the Pendragons or lead to them being seen in a more positive light.

• “Your bravery is only match by your stupidity” ? to Arthur

I'm guessing the teaser for 5x03 is 'It has the power to summon the spirits of the dead', but I'm not sure about the other one. Thanks for updating us!

Loving the 'entwined' teaser by the way - I agree, it has to be Arwen! There are no other characters on the show who it could apply to as far as I can see.

My guesses:
(1) Mordred to Merlin (telling merlin he will not tell either Arthur or Morgana that Merlin has magic);
(2) Either Merlin or Gwaine to the alien;
(3) Sefa to her father (i am assuming he is injured trying to save her)
(4) Arthur to Merlin (spoilers are A&M had to enter Morgana's lair via garbage area
(5) Mordred to Morgan when they are reunited
(6) Morgana ranting to Mordred of what she wants to do to Arthur ( "I want his annihilation, i want to put his head on a spike and watch as the crows feast on his eyes" ) IMO this shows how much Morgana has de-evolved. Arthur has done nothing to warrant such hatred from her.
(7) Arthur to Merlin- "Your bravery is only matched by your stupidity."
(8) Arthur questioning Morgana as to what turned her into this hate filled psycho witch.
(9) The alien saying this to Merlin (unsure)
(10) Mordred saying this to either Morgana or Merlin .

"It has the power to ******* the******of the dead" I have no idea.

Who here thinks that Arthur's Bane is Merlin, "He stalks him like a shadow", that's what the old seer said. Merlin is like a shadow to Arthur, always by his side. Didn't Merlin fail to save him at Camlaan as per the legend. Now that he has had a look into the future, he now knows to look out for Mordred. I think TPTB are going to put a twist to that part of the legend too. Maybe Arthur doesn't die this time but Mordred will try again in later years to come when Arthur is older. Which by then I believe Merlin has gone out of Arthur's life.

I think Arthur's bane is going to turn out to be Arthur. Probably a combination of Arthur disregarding merlin's advice on mordred, and Arthur's anti magic rules for camelot. Based upon spoilers, we know Mordred some how becomes a Knight of Camelot. Either this is an elaborate plan of Modred's to play spy for Morgana or he switched sides so he could work within to change Arthur's mind on magic. Given the fact we know Morgana is going to do all she can to bring down Arthur and Gwen, including capturing and tormenting Gwen, I don't see Arthur becoming pro-magic anytime soon. Upset that Arthur refuses to change Uther's anti-magic stance, Mordred turns against Arthur and joins Morgana in her campaign to destroy the royal couple. This leads to the Arthur and mordred confrontation that the druid showed merlin in the cave, which leads to Arthur's death. Not liking where I think this series is heading. I hope I am wrong.

Thanks for the interesting reads, folks!!! I think we're getting this episode down nicely. I don't have time for guesses but I do think Arthur's bane is he himself and definitely we're going to see the great Camelot security being made a joke of once again. Maybe Gwen's strategy plan is not going to work and that doesn't bother me because I certainly don't expect each and every thing she does to be perfect. I want things to be realistic in which case there are times she's not going to deliver or make a mistake or whatever. At least she should if they want to make it real. Arthur sure makes plenty.

Not sure about that intertwined thing. They get tricky with stuff like that, often meaning something off the wall so to speak.

My argument is the vision that Merlin saw has Arthur looking the age he is in this time, he has not unite Albion, therefore it is too early for his death. That is why he might be injured but survive, in the vision, he did not die but he is wounded.
