EmaSomolanyiova picked Anastasia:
@Adelital she is considered Russian because Swan Lake was composed by Tchaikovskij, a Russian composer.

Anyway, out of these it has to be Anastasia. She is beautiful and she acts very realistic- she is so not a sissy!

AdelitaI picked Odette:
^^ As a Russian-speaking woman from country that borders with Russia and who never had Ds at school and who even attended musical school( if for few years), I know who composed Swan Lake. Are Roméo and Juliette English because Shakespeare is? Swan Lake was based on Western European legend. Nutcracker was based on the novel by GERMAN author.
I believe calling Swan Princess and Nutcracker characters is super wrong and offensive to Russians and Eastern Europeans. It was so disgusting to see under 2018 Nutcracker trailers the comments like, “What are black characters doing in Russian?” but not “Why characters are named Fritz, Louise and Clara in Russia?”( well, I know why. Because they are German children from German but why people, who think the movie takes place in Russia are fine with all characters having German or at least West European names but not with black characters. In my opinion considering Swan Like and Nutcracker characters Russian leads to the viewing Russia or any other Slavic country as “just another very white place”( I don’t say you see it because, according to your nickname, you seem to be Slavic). It’s problematic when people have no problems with East European being portrayed inaccurately and way too similar to West Europe, as long as they are portrayed as mostly white. Yes, West Europe contacted quite much at times when Pyotr Ilyich lived but this also means Russians knew enough about West European culture and created masterpieces that were inspired by West European. It would be also problematic in my opinion to assume that East Europeans can only create about East Europeans because it creates the stereotype of East European being so uneducated and isolated from the West and saw Westerns like some aliens or magical beasts( sadly, such mindset existed, “Basurman” by Ivan Lazhechnikov tells a lot about it but it takes place in 15th century).
I think Odette should be seen as ambiguously West European character like, say, Rapunzel and Aurora( btw, I guess you know that not like Russian music and Aurora aren’t connected in any way) and Nutcracker characters as German( human characters at least, some toys are even non-European, non white in the original story). Just like Romeo and Juliette are Italian and Hamlet is Danish. Just like many characters that I created are of different ethnicity from me.
