This poll is brought to you by Dahvie Vanity being a piece of shit.

Jokes aside, by this I mean; there are so many artists that are just brilliant but their actions are morally grey at best and unlawful at worst. Do you still think that it's okay/possible to support them. Be it something like older works that are a product of their time (ie. they have racist aspects) or someone like Davhie who is known to have assaulted fans.

By 'Yes, but I'll only like their work, I won't support it' I mean that I'll still listen to their music or read their books and so on but I won't support them by buying the book or buying albums and merch.

I try to keep the artists separate from their art. One of my biggest examples is Ninja from Die Antwoord. I think that he's a brilliant rapper and a clever one but his personality rubs me all wrong. He comes off as sexist, homophobic, and allegedly he abuses his bandmate.

Blood On The Dance Floor is a guilty pleasure band for me. Their music is so shitty but it's so catchy. But Davhie has 21 alleged sexual assault claims (form underage fans mind you) to his name and is even being investigated by the 'To Catch A Predator' host.

They're both awful but I still like their music. But after finding out about what they've done and how they act you won't catch me buying another album anytime soon.

I used to quite like one of B.o.B.'s songs, then he came out as a flat-earther (like a legit, "trying to raise $200,000 to prove the earth is flat" flat earther)... I've never really been able to enjoy the song to the same level that I did before lol

Will answer this properly when I get time :'(

I used to firmly believe in separating the artist from the art, as evidenced by link. But I've come to realize that it truly depends on the harm that person is doing and to whom.

Like, is that person just casually into "alternative medicine"? I might side-eye it, but eh. Whatever.

Or is this person actively using their influence and cash to promote "alternative medicine" and profit off of it? (Lookin at you, Paltrow). Then yeah, I don't want my money going to that.

Similarly, dead artists are a whole other category. I love Roald Dahl's books, despite the fact that he was a vocal anti-Semite. It helps, though, that he's dead - and cannot actively advance his anti-Semitic views (also that his estate has link for these views). Deplorable views to be sure, but you can't hold someone accountable who is dead, and he can't do any further harm now. Then again, I'm not Jewish. I'm not the target of Dahl's hatred. So I also have the privilege of being able to more easily dismiss it.

But someone who is still alive, though, they should be held accountable. Someone whose using their wealth and influence to harm people definitely doesn't deserve any more of my money - even if I love their works.

"Or is this person actively using their influence and cash to promote "alternative medicine" and profit off of it?" Agree with this. I bought some Kat Von D eyeliner last month before realising she's an anti-vaxxer and promotes anti-vax views on her social media. Not buying her stuff again.

Good point about the distinction between people long-dead vs. people who are still alive and can be held accountable

The lead singer of Trapt came out as being a pedophile apologist, racist and all around deplorable shitstain of a human being. But I only like one song and I won't support them. They will never get my money ever.

I would agree about the people who are still alive thing as well. I definitely think that those people would need to be held accountable. But I feel as though there's a difference between supporting them and liking their work. Like with music; I can still like and enjoy a song but I can always just download it instead of buying it on itunes and I wouldn't support them by going to a concert or buying an album like I would with other artists. Pretty much what blind said.
