I really do not get how Belle is such a Mary Sue, she is pretty snobbish and believes she's always right. A Mary Sue really can't do anything wrong and doesn't have to earn anyone's affection. Belle is considered odd and the Beast is annoyed with her.
Rapunzel on the other hand fits this term to a T. Everyone likes her, she is so talented, is a tough fighter, doesn't have any real flaws.

Rapunzel's my second favorite but between these 2, definitely. I don't think Belle is a Mary Sue, or a snob for that matter. She wasn't supposed to be anyway.

Belle, because nothing goes wrong! Sure, she goes to the West Wing, but the movie makes it look like the beast is the villain, not her. Also, I've never seen how she's a snob. Not saying she's a Mary-Sue, but Punz is way too trusting, naive, bipolar, and things don't always go as planned.

I honestly don't think either of them are. And Belle is NOT a snob. If Belle was truly as stuck-up as everyone says she was, she wouldn't have fallen for the Beast.

No, her bought her love with a library. She'd love anyone who gave her that many books. she's also a furry, lol.
Also, I was only trying to explain how she ISN'T a Mary Sue: her snobbishness is a flaw. Its illogical deny she is a Mary sue then also deny one of her biggest flaws. I hope you know it isn't being disloyal to accept the bad sides of your favourite. I love her so I accept her flaws!
She doesn't want friends who don't like what she likes, she acts condescending in her tone towards Gaston and the villagers, that sounds like a snobby person to me.

belle is very stuckup with the town, nothing was stopping her with making friends with them if she was so darn desperate for some. however i still think she is a big mary sue. the movie makes her sooooo perfect. she doesnt have real flaws. curious aint a flaw!!
at least rapunzel has some bad traits, she is clumsy, a bit selfish, naive, too trusting, indecisive. she just overcomes it all cause unlike saint Belle she has character development =)

I know I have said and still stand by saying that these two are the closest to Mary Sues out of the bunch. I chose Rapunzel because what Belle did (West Wing) was seen as wrong while NOTHING Rapunzel says or does is seen as wrong. She does not have to work hard to impress people, knows a bunch of skills she would not have realistically learned only from in the tower, and has no flaws, while Belle is extremely stubborn and always thinks she is right. I do not think Belle is snobbish though, but barely anything she does is seen wrong as well, and does not develop as a character unlike Rapunzel. I might switch to Belle.

Neither but if I have to choose.

The more I analyze Belle, the less I objectively see her as a Mary Sue (however, I agree with Jayden- these two by far are the closest to Mary Sues as it gets). I do think Belle is a link, though. (Yes, that's a thing.) both are obviously meant to be the absolute ideal heroines, but though Belle's creators didn't do squat to make her flaws clear, they are more obvious than Rapunzel's. for an article I'm doing, I am having the darnest time coming up with a defining flaw for Rapunzel. It's more like the movie is telling us she's supposed to be flawed, but it makes her too ideal in everything she does (being heroic, being loved by all, being multitalented, being the lost princess and magically becoming a perfect queen, being brave, being independent, etc.) says otherwise.

Belle can be a bit sarcastic sometimes.

^Well so can Bella Swan. that's not a flaw. we're supposed to agree with Belle when she is.
