princesslullaby picked Yes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing:
I honestly, to the depths of my core, do not think that ANY of the Disney princesses are selfish. Some princesses are given the story line to be a lot more selfless to others (Cinderella, Belle, Pocahontas, mulan) while others aren't (tiana, ariel, jasmine). But that doesn't mean the latter are selfish. For example, Ariel yes was only thinking of herself when she traded her voice, but she literally had no idea that ursula was going to use it to manipulate Triton so I'll never understand why people call her selfish.
That being said, I do consider Merida the most inconsiderate in that she used the spell on her mother rather than on herself. At least ariel only thought her actions were going to affect her. But I really love flawed female characters (especially since most films make women out to be basically saints /do gooders and let men be selfish all the time without blinking an eye) so it's really nice to see a self-focused princess who isn't a villain or played out to be a bad role model.
I do see a lot of double standard. I find Aladdin to be pretty selfish, a liar, manipulative, and highly flawed yet he is usually the most popular prince on here. People don't give women that freedom to be flawed as they do male characters.

^thank you. People have to leave their nest sometimes and you have to trust that your kids are doing the right thing for them. Ariel only went behind tritons back because she would have never been able to do it otherwise, also because he destroyed her stuff.

Well said, in my point of view she just wanted her freedom (why women need to do everything what is duty to them but men can do everything they want?).

You can be selfish. Yeah. Everyone is. But I feel like even in your own selfishness, you should examine the hell out of your selfish choice and consider what harm/outcome it might have on others.

I do heartily agree with disnerdtobe and princesslullaby to an extent. Double standards do exist.

nah ariel is still more selfish to me. not just in her conflict with triton, but in her relationships with her friends as well - it's all about getting her way. she rarely, if ever, bothers to consider anyone else's feelings or use them in her decision making. and i think it's important to note that merida's arc (and the main point of her movie) is about owning her screwups and changing her behavior, while ariel never does and isn't expected to.

She's just want to be free for rule her own life. Her selfishness is reasonable.
Anyway as she changes she'll be the second most selfish DP, after Ariel.

Yeah, she is the most selfish. And given her circumstances, that's mostly okay, although when it gets to the point of negatively affecting her mother then it is an issue. However, that was also a mistake, and hopefully she learned from it.
