Beast's spell was broken if he was loved by a girl so it's obvious.

It is definitely pushed in the movie that it should be romantic love, but thinking back to the whole purpose of the enchantress's curse, it would make sense for a deep platonic love to break the spell - isn't the whole point for the Beast to learn to love? And if so, it shouldn't matter what type of love, as long as it is true and acknowledged by both parties.

This would have been a fantastic twist to the film, but sadly it doesn't seem to be the case. They already loved each other as friends and that didn't break the spell.
