Easily. Vanessa has creepy eyes, plus Ariel's hair is just more alive and moves much more nicely than Vanessa's, and her smile is more genuine and natural.

I find Vanessa's features to be sharper, and she is less naturally beautiful. Ariel, on the other hand, is gorgeous without even needing to put on lipstick--- unlike Ursula/Vanessa does at least twice in the film.
