I don't think he is as sympathetic as people say, I don't think that he is the good brother or that "all his problem is that he is stubborn", also I sorta dislike his fanbase. But I believe that expanding his role compared to source material was probably the best decision of creators. My favorite movie scenes wouldn't occur without him. I may disagree with the reasons he is usually loved but it doesn't mean I don't love anything about him as a character. Also, I don't like Gothel so this is no tough choice to me.
