I think she cared for her but, she cared for her magical hair more, but im sure Rapunzel didn't want her to die in the end.

^ I agree, I think Rapunzel if she could she would save her i mean whatever she had done she were the one that was taking care of her!

I'd say more no than yes but she definitely had some love for her, you could kind of tell, but she had much more love for her hair

She only loved what Rapunzel represented for her - and obviously she liked to have power over her. I think that every kindness she ever did for Rapunzel was truly about her hair.

I think that Gothel didn't actually love her like unconditionally. She did care for her, but only for her hair. She was one of the only victims that was a little bit saddening when she died.

she just loved herself more and let her desire to be young and rapunzel's hair get in the way. but she did love rapunzel i don't think she could raise her and take care of her all those years and not love her. and magicfairydust is right she didn't love rapunzel uncondidtionally

Yeah, Rapunzel loved Gothel and didn't want that she'd died but I don't think that Gothel loved rapunzel herself, only her hair

I can say that Mother Gothel had an emotional "attachment" to Rapunzel. I can't say that she didn't love her, but I equally can not say that Rapunzel's hair was not an incentive to care more for Rapunzel. In all honesty Gothel did everything a typical not "ideal" mom would do for their daughter. Feed her, clothe her, give her tools to have activities with and protect her from anyone who didn't have her best interest at heart. So I am more on she loved her than not loved her at all on a spectrum of love vs. indifference

I think it was kinda refreashing that a villian actually cared for one of the main characters. I find it unbelievable that she could have her for so many years without some kinda of caring emotions happening. She did seem to care about Rapunzel but just loved the hair more.

She loves Rapunzel's hair. But I think after for many years she takes care of Rapunzel, she must love Rapunzel at least a little bit. After all, Rapunzel is the only one Mother Gothel has.

No. She's constantly chipping away Rapunzel's self-esteem and obviously only likes Rapunzel for her hair. If she really loved Rapunzel, she'd let her actually go outside.

No. What she wants is only Rapunzel's hair. And Gothel is ironically good to act like her mother. If she really loves her, she wouldn't locked her in an isolated tower and let her go to see the lanterns instead.

Definitely for her own personal gains!
