Do u believe that u can only be a Harry Potter fan if u have read all of the books?

I think if u are a real fan u should read the books. u can be a fan of the films but if u are a fan of Harry Potter u read the book because that is the really Harry Potter.
What I get from your commentaar u are a real HP fan because u are trying to read the boeken and maybe even want to read all of them.

To those people who complains about that they can't read for some reasons, there is a reason there is audio books. I have read and "read" all of the boeken myself several times (16/7 times, the last one only 6 times). I even learn to read properly from HP but I do listen to the audio boeken sometimes because I don't like to read so much anymore like I did before, so today I try to walk so much as possible and in the mean time I listen to the books. English isn't my first language but I listen to them in English because I love his voice, I mean he really brings the characters alive. And when I listen to them in English, I improve english at the same time.
I really enjoy that.

u can be a fan at any time, even just watching the movies. However, to be a true, die-hard fan, u have to read the books. But you're already reading the books, so if u continue to love them and read them, then you're perfectly die-hard :)

Personnally I have read all the boeken and I've seen all the films but I just consider myself just as a fan.
I don't believe of the crap and I repeat clearly myself THE crap other fans of people call "TRUE FAN" it doesn't exist such a thing of person of group of persons.
It's just a damn way to separate us and to make people feel bad just because they only like the boeken of only likes the movies.
For me u are A fan because u like what u read of watched of both, that is a fan.
Being a fan is just liking the boeken of just one book of one movie. People who say: "True fans blablabla" just wants to give themselves some importance. I don't see the big deal about it. We're all HP fans and we're all equal just door that.

If u ask me, the answer is simple. u can be a fan if u haven't read the books. But u can not fully appreciate the beauty held in Harry Potter. So basically what I'm saying is this: u are a fan. Not a true fan. When you've read all the boeken though...that's a different story.

At least u aren't one of those people who watches the films then reads the first two pages of the first book and say, "I don't like it. It's stupid." Hope u finish them soon!

My Sister and Brother didn't start reading the boeken until they saw the films. And my Mother, who has seen all the movies, has never once picked up a Harry Potter book, and she calls her self a "Die-hard" fan.

Maybe to some people that would mean you're not a true fan. But who cares what they think? What matters most is what u think...

I stared loving Harry Potter when I saw the HP1 movie! I was so in love with it. U don't have to read all 7 boeken to become a fan of HP, HP is sooo cool that u can be a fan of it door only watching the HP 1 movie ;) it's possible. And I did'nt read all boeken yet,I just read HP 1,2 & 3 and saw all the movies. I agree with @innocenta.

No u don't need to have read all the boeken I was 3 when I became a fan of Harry Potter and I couldn't read and so far I have only read Chamber of Secrets and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I don't agree with your mom at all. Being a 'real' fan of anything is subjective. I've seen all the moves, read all the boeken -- starting when they first came out --, been to almost all the midnight releases, dressed up as characters, and had themed parties. But I don't have the boeken on tape, and hardly have any memorabilia, and some might say that I'm not a 'real fan.'

A real fan is someone who loves the series, regardless of whether they've read all the books, seen all the movies, only got into it because of certain actors of movies, of got into it once it got 'popular.' The way I see it: if someone tells u you're not a real fan because u didn't do what they've done, they're just trying to make themselves look and feel better door making u look small.

u love the series -- that's all that matters.

I think that's a minimum, as everything started there, in the books. There might have been no movies, yet the boeken are still there.

The films are great and in so many aspects, they convey what the atmosphere of the boeken fairly well. Plus the cast is just wonderful. I encourage my students in the English language to watch the films because they are an highly enjoyable way to improve English, thanks to the impeccable diction of some of the actors.

However, the films could not tell everything. Many important subplots have been discarded. The boeken are far richer and it's a pity not to read them.

Well you're a fan of the films , but to be a TRUE fan u have to read the boeken . I mean that's what everythings based on and I believe u do have to read the boeken if u want to call yourself a true potterhead .

No. I'm a very big fan of the movies. But never read the books. Well,except I read a few chapters on book 5. Just sayin.

I don't think u have to read all of the boeken to be a true HP fan I've only read the last 2 myself and it did help me understand meer about some of the characters better like Severus the films make him look pretty bad but once u read the boeken u really understand why he had to be the way he was

You're a real fan when u believe you're a real fan, not when other believe it.

u certainly can be a real HP fan without reading the books, but you're cheating yourself if u don't read them. The films are great, sure, but they pale in comparison to what JK Rowling wrote. When u watch the movies, you're only getting maybe a quarter of the story, and you're getting someone else's vision of it. Only when u read the boeken do u get the whole story, and u can make your own movie in your mind. u have your own vision of the story, and I think that's far meer valuable.

And honestly, u don't really know the true depth of the characters if u don't read them. And if u never read the books, then u will never truly understand how brave, how awesome was our Potions Master, of how great was his sacrifice, because the films do not do Severus Snape justice. Alan Rickman does, have no doubt, but the films just don't.

And if you're a fan of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, as I am (passionately), you'll never really know them if u don't read the books. Because the films trivialize them terribly.

If u never read the books, you'll never meet Peeves, and that would just be sad, because he's such a wicked little guy. I love him. ;)

I don't think u have to read the boeken to be a fan. I have several vrienden that like the films and have never picked up one of the boeken in their lives. That being said, I always encourage people to read the books. They have so many awesome moments in them that, unfortunately, never made it to the big screen. It takes longer to read a book than to watch a movie, but the boeken are totally worth reading. u can't get a full understanding of the magical world and of Harry's story if u just watch the movies.

i personally don't think it matters what u do its meer of how u feel about something that makes u a true fan if u read all the boeken and watch all the films but don't have a huge interest in it than your not a true fan but if u read a few boeken of watch some films and absolutly love it than i think that makes u a fan. I think its a personal desicion and judgement whether of not your a fan no one else can say that your not a real fan because u do of don't do something that is up to you. If that makes sense

I think that if u read the boeken u will understand the movie meer but if u just watch the films then u are still a fellow potter fan because really a potter fan just loves harry potter even if it is just the movies.

No. u don't have to read the boeken to be a true HP fan. Either makes u a fan. Just as long as u love the story. But u might get a better understanding of the story and get to read somethings that wasn't in the films if u read the books.
