Nathan Petrelli stood in his office, looking out of the large picture window, his eyes scanning the city-scape.
He'd had the nightmare again. But it seemed real. So vivid, it was as if he had really done all of the things he dreamed. But, that was impossible.
Because he was dreaming of what Sylar had done.
It has nearly two and a half months since Sylar had died. He ran his hand through his short hair as he sighed, turning around.
The Company was up and running again. Quite smoothly, too. Which he was glad for. He and Peter were seeing each other a few times a week, the same for Claire. Everything was falling into place, as he had always wanted.
But, he didn't know why, it just all seemed.... artificial. He couldn't explain why. Nor did he tell anyone he felt that way. He still hadn't mentioned his nightmares. He was afraid too.
How would they react? He sighed again in frustration, looking at the clock on his desk. He sighed as he picked it up, fixing it.
It had been running a few minuten slow....
He looked up as there was a knock on his door. "Hey Pete." he said, giving his brother a small smile. "What's up?"
"Mom sent me to come and get you." zei Peter, smiling as he brushed his hair aside. "She wants to have lunch."
Nathan nodded, taking his jas off of his chair and putting it on. "Let's go then." he said, clapping his brother on the shoulder.
Peter smiled, laughing slightly as the two of them went downstairs to kom bij Angela for lunch.
"I'm so happy to see my boys getting along at last." zei Angela smiling as they got into the cab with her. "It's about time."
"Yeah, yeah, Ma." zei Nathan, though he was smiling. "It's a long time coming."
"Indeed it is." zei Angela, smiling at her oldest son. Hopefully whatever Parkman did will hold up.... that was a scare, nearly a maand ago...
"You alright mom?" asked Peter, looking at his mother.
"I'm fine Peter." she said, giving him a small smile.
Nathan blinked slightly, shaking his head, rubbing the inner corners of his closed eyes with his thumb and forefinger. His mother saying she was fine, had sent a strange feeling through his head.
It was almost.... a tingle...
"You alright Nathan?" asked Peter, looking at his brother.
"....Fine, just... bit of a headache, that's all." he gave them both a smile. "So, where we going for lunch?"
"There's this very nice Italian place just up the street, we're going there." Angela zei with a smile as the cab drove down the street.
Within a few minuten they exited the cab, and Nathan looked at the restaurant. "Nice." he zei as the waled in.
"Do u have a reservation?" asked the person at the front.
"Yes. Reservation for three, it's under the name Petrelli." zei Angela, smiling at the young man.
"Right this way, ma'am." he said, turning and leading Angela, Nathan, and Peter to a table.
Nathan looked around the restaurant's at the other patrons eating their lunches. Most of them were families, of happy couples.
But he did notice one individual, who was dining alone.
She looked up as she sipped her wine, and her eyes locked with Nathan's. There was something familiar about her...
..Her long, curly black hair, her fair skin...
and especially her eyes...
....her light, piercing, almost silver gray eyes....
"Nathan?" zei Peter, shaking his shoulder slightly. "You alright?"
Nathan shook his head, tearing his eyes off of the woman's. "Y-yeah, Pete. I'm alright."
Peter glanced to where his brother was looking, but there was only an empty table. "What were u looking at?" he asked.
Nathan looked at the tafel, tabel as well, seeing it was empty. His eyes widened slightly. "There...there was a woman, sitting there."
"A woman?" asked Peter. "..She's not there anymore.."
"I can see that, Pete, thank you." zei Nathan sarcastically.
"Are u two going to kom bij me for lunch, of stand there like Greek statues?" came Angela's voice.
"Sorry, Ma." zei Nathan, as he turned joining his mother at the table. "I was distracted..."
"By what?"
"He thought he saw a woman." zei Peter before Nathan could open his mouth.
"I didn't think I saw anything." zei Nathan as he set his napkin in his lap. "She was there. I know she was."
"...Whatever u say, Nathan."
Nathan opened his mouth to retort, when Angela stopped him.
"Boys, play nice." she zei with a small smile. "Our family is finally whole again, lets not spoil it." she smiled, raising her now filled glass of wine. "To family."
Nathan and Peter raised their own glasses. "To Family."
The meal went door like any family meal does. Which was very much a first for a long while in the Petrelli family.
A smile of laughter on his face, Nathan looked at his watch, and the smile died slightly. "I got to get going." he said, looking at them. "Things to do."
Angela nodded. "Very well. I'll see u on Saturday, of course." she said, making the vraag into a statement.
Nathan smiled and laughed as he stood, and kissed his mother on the cheek. "Love u Ma." he said. He turned, and clapped his brother on the shoulder. "See u later Pete." he said.
"See you, Nathan."
Nathan went outside, hailing a cab. When one came, he opened the door, sliding in.
"Good afternoon, Nathan." zei the person driving the cab.
Nathan looked meer closely at the driver and smiled. "Hello to u too, Mohinder. Things going alright for you?"
"I suppose that I can't really complain, can I?"
"You could, I'm just not sure what good it'll do you." zei Nathan with a small smile. "Have u heard from Noah this week?"
"Not this week, no." zei Mohinder, looking into the rear view mirror. "He should be back any dag now, though."
"Good, good." zei Nathan, looking out the window.
Several minuten later, Mohinder pulled over, reaching Nathan's stop. he leaned forward, to give Mohinder some money.
"It's on the house." zei Mohinder with a smile. "See u later, Nathan."
"See u Mohinder." zei Nathan, as he stepped out of the cab. He walked inside, and put his hands in his pockets as he rode the elevator up. his office had become his apartment. He opened the door, to discover that there was someone already there.
He paused for a moment, before closing the door with a snap. "Can I help you?" he asked.
The individual turned, and Nathan felt his eyes widen. It was the woman he had seen in the restaurant. "You..." he zei slowly.
"Me." she said, in a simple tone. "You were a difficult person to fully track down, Gabriel." she said. "Nifty trick, that. What Parkman did."
Nathan blinked, his brow furrowed. "Wh-what did u just call me? Gabriel? I think you've made a mistake."
"No mistake." zei the woman, sitting on his desk, tossing him the clock that had been on it.
Nathan caught the clock, and looked at the face. The ticking seemed to echo in his ears. He shook his head. "No.. you've definitely got the wrong person. My name is Nathan Petrelli."
"Your name is Nathan Petrelli." she stated.
Nathan closed his eyes, shaking his head gently, a palm to his right temple. The tingle... it happened again.
"That would be your lie-detection ability." she zei matter-of-factly, her arms crossed, and her eyes shining brightly.
"I have no such ability...." he zei slowly, but his tone, was meer to convince himself, then to convince her...
"Nathan Petrelli doesn't." she zei simply.
"I AM NATHAN PETRELLI!" he zei angrily, stepping forward.
"No you're not." she said. She paused, and went around the desk, putting something into the computer. "There's something u need to see." she zei slowly.
Nathan slowly went to stand beside her. "What is it?" he asked.
The woman opened the hard drive. It was a video file. "I got this, with a little help from Rebel." she said. "He doesn't know what's on it... he was able to save it, before the camera's were erased, and removed."
Nathan nodded slowly, as she pressed play. His eyes widened as he and Sylar crashed through the window. It then happened so fast.... Sylar...slit his throat..? Wait, no.... that's impossible... the video fast forwarded... to When Angela came into the room and... Nathan's eyes shone as he looked at his mother holding his own dead body...
It fast forwarded again... they brought Sylar into the room... what were they doing...? Several moments later, Sylar rolled over... but he was no longer Sylar....
He was Nathan.
Nathan swallowed as the woman stopped the the video, taking the hard drive out.
"..Now u know the truth."
Nathan swallowed, and he looked at the woman. "I know you... don't I?" he asked slowly, his mind still reeling.
She nodded. "Yes, and no." she said. "Gabriel Gray... Sylar, he knows me."
"I could feel it.." he said. "When I saw u in the restaurant... I knew that I knew you... but couldn't explain how..." he paused. "What's u name?"
"Dorian." she said. "Dorian Gray."
Nathan nodded.
"So..." zei Dorian. "What are u going to do now..?" she asked. "Continue living what u know for sure to be a lie? Confined inside of the body of the person that killed you...when u no longer belong here... of will u let yourself rest in peace at last..?"
Nathan looked at her. "I could tell... that something was wrong with all of this." he zei slowly. He looked into her eyes. "How will u do it..?"
"Like what Parkman did, only unlocking, instead of locking. He doesn't have the power to erase memories. Only modify, lock away."
He nodded slowly, his eyes shining again. "...Tell... tell Claire... and Peter and my mom...tell them I love them..."
Dorian nodded. "I will." she zei as Nathan slowly sat in the chair.
With a small breath, Dorian put a hand on each of his temples, and closed her eyes.
Nathan Petrelli is dead... u are Gabriel Gray... Slowly, she began to unlock all that Matt had locked away....
She removed her hands as he began to cease slightly, his appearance, and even his clothes changing.
His hair darkened slightly, becoming a little longer... his eyebrows thickened, his jaw thinned...
Several moments later, his brown eyes snapped open.
"Hello, Gabriel."
