Even though Pete told them not to race, Hawkeye, and Gordon decided to do it anyway.

Hawkeye: I'm going to win, and u know it.
Gordon: Nuh, uh. I'm going to win, because I am going to have two diesels on my train.
Hawkeye: That doesn't mean anything. I'll make sure to send u a postcard from Denver when I get there.
Gordon: Don't bother.

They found their engines at the servicing facility, and started driving them to the yards. The trains were already set up door Snowflake's tower.

Snowflake: Where is Gordon?
Metal Gloss: The meer important vraag is, Where's Pierce?
Hawkeye & Gordon: *Backing their engines onto their trains*
Snowflake: I believe this antwoorden our questions.
Metal Gloss: *Climbs into the cab of Hawkeye's engine* Where were you? You're going to get us fired.
Hawkeye: I received a challenge from Gordon. We're both going to Denver in our trains, and we will get there before he does.
Metal Gloss: Okay, but he has meer engines than us.
Hawkeye: Only two engines. So what? We are still going to win.

Before Snowflake turned the signals green for Hawkeye, and Gordon, Hawkeye used the sander to get sand on the rails.

Metal Gloss: What are u doing?
Hawkeye: Getting sand on the rails.
Metal Gloss: Why?
Hawkeye: To give our engine meer grip. We'll be flying out of here before Gordon can even get his train moving.
Snowflake: *Turns signals green*
Hawkeye: Here we go. *Drives train*
Gordon: *Drives train* Oh no. His train is going faster than mine. Why?

The race began, and they both got their trains moving parallel to each other on the mainline.

Gordon: *On the radio* Hello? Can anypony hear me?
Stylo: Hello Gordon.
Gordon: You're not going to make fun of me, are you?
Stylo: That depends. Are u still driving a stolen Canterlot?
Gordon: What does that have to do with anything?
Stylo: Oh nothing. Where is Hawk?
Gordon: u mean Pierce? I'm racing his train to Denver.
Stylo: On hoof? You'll never beat him.
Gordon: No! We're both racing in trains!
Stylo: u still won't be able to beat him.
Gordon: Shut up! I'll win. *Turns off radio* Jeez. I wonder what'll happen next. The Lone Ranger, riding his spirit human on top, boven of my train. *Looks to the left, and sees Hawkeye's train* He is still in front of me!

In Hawkeye's engine

Metal Gloss: *Looking out of the cab* Haha, we're winning!
Hawkeye: I told u so. After the race ends with us in victory, would u like to go have dinner? I know a place that makes the finest pizza in all of Equestria.
Metal Gloss: Maybe. I'll have to check my schedule. *looking at her schedule book* Yeah.
Hawkeye: I knew u would be able to have avondeten, diner with me. I didn't even have to check your schedule.
Metal Gloss: *Rolls her eyes while smiling*
