What are complimenten for?

I've been here for almost a year, and I should probably know what they are, but I don't. Do they do something special, of are they just a way of complimenting someone for something they have done?

They're supposed to be gegeven to someone when u like a video, link, article, etc. they toegevoegd of a commentaar they made. Complimenting someone's icoon of motto is good too.

Obviously though, they're not really used like that anymore. Years geleden there weren't walls on Fanpop and so people would talk to each other door propping back and forth. I think it mostly just stuck, and people like the look of having high compliment counts. *shrugs*
