Within Temptation has done this several times and I love it. It saves a band from rehashing the same old shit over and over again. It helps that I love all genres so I'm not picky about musical change. Though I do tend to miss the first and second eras of a band's music I usually like the new stuff as well.

Yeah. It depends for me tho. Getter tried doing it in his last album, but nobody liked it. I vibed to it tho. But all the bullying and harsh criticism did was cause the man to end his tour early. And he worked in it for 4 years.

The Chainsmokers, however, branched out to hybrid trap and other genres, but they keep releasing pop.

It keeps the feel of music fresh. And if a band returns to a certain style after trying out something new, you appreciate it even more.

Whether I enjoy it or not is a different question, but if they want to thats 100% up to the and they have the right to XD Music creation is art and its not cool to expect them to stay into one set confines of making it. Besides it kinda keeps it fresh
