The Vampire Diaries Article: Pairing Stereotypes: Bamon and Delena

Ok, so if u know me from Fanfiction.net (Danielle Salvatore) u would know that I’m a major Bamon fan. They are my favoriete pairing from VD in the toon and boeken (though mostly books). But lately, in the toon at least, I’ve started to see Delena in a new light, maybe even to the point that I might start liking them soon.
Now before my fellow Bamon fans start kicking my ass, I’m not saying that I’m switching pairings. I still love Bamon, but I think in the VD show, I might become neutral someday.
So I got inspired to get into the Delena fan base a little, door going over to their spot and talking to a few of them, and discovered some things: they have a lot of stereotypes about us Bamon fans as we do about them.
Now some of them from both sides are just flat ridiculous so I thought I would address some of them. I’ll start with Delena:

Delena:
While I was on their spot, I actually met and talked to a few of them, and even made vrienden with some. So the fact that everyone say they’re crazy is not true (at least not for all of them). They are just passionate about their ship, like we are. :)
. Delena fans span: I think it seems like this only because the Delena fan base is so big (now don’t get me wrong, I do find myself getting annoyed at all of the Delena stuff in the VD spot, but saying that they are spamming is a bit unfair).
. Delena fans only care about Damon and Elena: Now this may be true for some Delena fans, but definitely not all of them. If u look at their spot, there are, right now, tons of enquêtes on which pairings they like outside of Delena. From what I’ve seen, there are Delena fans that ship Stefan/Katherine, Stefan/Caroline, Bonnie/Jeremy, Bonnie/Tyler, Caroline/Tyler, and ect. So saying that ALL Delena fans are too blinded door Delena to care about any other character is unfair.

Bamon:
. Bamon fans only support Bamon because they ship Stelena: This is very far from the truth actually. Again, I’m not saying that ALL Bamon fans are unlike this, but there are actually a lot of Bamon fans who don’t like Elena, so how could they ship Stelena? I like both myself, but for me, I’m meer of a Stefan/Katherine of Stefan/Caroline shipper. :)
Bamon fans are too blind to see the chemistry of Delena: To me, some people can see chemistry between two people, and some don’t. It’s all in the matter of opinion, just like how Delena fans don’t see chemistry between Damon/Bonnie like we do.

And here is a very common stereotype coming from both sides:
Bamon/Delena fans are crazy: This seems to pop up in both the Bamon AND Delena spots all the time. For me, neither fandom is crazy; we just both have a select few who give us a bad name (like the obnoxious Bamon fan that ruined the Beremy spot).
So all in all, about half the commentaren made during these shipping wars are ridiculous. Yes there are some rude Delena and Bamon fans out there, but we shouldn’t let those few immature people ruin the rep of the whole fandom.

And I’ve also discovered that just because we disagree on who Damon should be with, there is a great possibility that we may share tastes in pairings outside of VD, of even share the same opinions on other pairings of the toon (I’ve met quite a few Delena fans who like SK, which is my seconde favoriete paring in the show.)

of maybe we would all get along through our mutual love of Damon. :)

tellymaster I love this article! I agree that there are tons of crazy and rude fans out there. I was on the Bonnie/Damon fan page, and I saw that some Delena fans started insulting the ship, and there where some Bamon fans insulting the Delena ship. That's what I really hate. Fans shouldn't go on pages and insult it. That's what their page is for! And yes. I, being a Delena shipper, am a HUGE fan of Tyler/Caroline and Stefan/Katherine. I also love Bonnie/Jeremy as well.

Maximumridefan That's what I see. There is no ship that is necessarily "crazy". Each ship has their own few crazies that ruin the rep for the whole fandom. Thanks!

rilelen_star I like neither Delena idea nor Bamon. I'm sure people will think that I'm crazy but Damon should have a new girlfriend. TV Elena is like the most boring and uninteresting character ever. Honestly I don't know what salavtore brothers and especially Damon see in her. In my opinion he should be with girl similar to Katharine but not so much self centerd. His girl should be crazy in a good way, brave, a beautifull kick ass girl, who doesn't need to be protected or rescued all the time. She should also be very honest, caring and loyal to people she loves/likes. She should uderstand Damon's sense of humour, finally understand his nature. That he's not a human but a vampire and some things about him can't be changed. F.ex. his girl should be more like Lizzie from POTC and Blair Waldorf from GG. I really miss damon from season 1 when he was very sweet and nice one minute and another he could kill you without blinking. He was so unpredictable and interesting. Or damon from the books with his arrogance & maliciousness that made him so charming. God, he was a real vampire not some kind of superhuman ala Edward, who is by the way the worst vampire in the world. If Damon ever ends with Elena in TV show she will be holding him back and making him boring. In fact she already is. And since when Damon says things like: I don't deserve you, it's the most selfish thing that I have ever said. it sounded for me like he had some problem with who he is and after 1st season I thought that he is above thinking like this. It's Stefan thing to not accepct his true nature. It sounded like Damon has a problem with who he is and such characters always irritate me. With Damon it's even more irritating than usual because he isn't a bad person. It doesn't matter if he sometimes kills sb or is malicious. He's a vampire and vampires do things that. because of that he can't be judged the same way as people are. The most important thing is if it comes to people he loves or cares about he can be a great guy what he proofed in last episode of season 1. Anyway only Stefan should be with Elena because they are perfect for each other. As for Bamon it had more sense in books (also Delena has in my opinion) but in the TV show it would be a total disaster. Besides the fact that I hate Bonnie with her "vampires are repsonsible for all evil in the world" thing , she hates damon so much and treats him so unfair and badly that she shouldn't be with him. So for my money the only good solution here is to find damon a new girlfriend which should be played by leighton meesters. But not because she makes a great Blair Waldorf and has this wonderfull chemistry with Chuck. She is for me the most beautifull young actresses nowadays and I can only see Ian and her together in TVD.

tale_disaster No matter which pair we like and ship,(Bamon or Delena), it all comes down to how much we love Damon. Damon forever.. Oh and Danielle, I love your story, Falling in Love Through Shakespeare. Keep it up! =)

xforwoodx @rilelen_star i agree with everything you say. I never go for the favourite ships i go for doomed ships like caroline/damon cause they where atleast interesting and funny together plus it was hilarious watching caroline get on his nerves with her talking lol. But yah delena and bamon fans are the worst. And i dont get how one minute damon loves katherine now he suddenly loves elena :\ i hope he is with jessica in the shower scene. Badboy damon is back with random girls :D (yay)

megclegg I agree with most of your article. I am a delena fan and i really agree with the fact that most of the time we only care about the pair we are shipping for and not for the rest of the couples or the show. And i dont get why we all argue about the couples we ship for. What i dont agree with is the fact that you said that most delena fans only ship for delena because of the big fan base, well i dont agree with that, i am obsessed with the vampire diaries and only started watching it in 2011 and i never knew about the delena fan base so that's not why i decided to become a delena fan because i always have been one since episode 1 and i just decided to be a delena fan from off what i saw on screen and what i thought the two characters had. I hope you agree with my comment that not all people become fans of couples because of the wide fan base. Im not trying start anything here i am just saying what a agree with and what i disagree with in this article, im not trying to offend any of the bamon fans or stelena fans or anyone else.
