After the large round of laughter and ironic applause, not to mention Robin nearly fearing for his life, the team looked over to Delta for an explanation, although someone had an inclination on what it might be about.
Batman, who had since dried himself off and calmed down, picked up Kenzie, looking very innocent, making Batman himself look innocent in a very scary way. Delta sighed and picked up the wilted rose, twirling its stem between her fingers.
“I’m not sure exactly how to explain this,” she began. “But I know this is Fin, I can feel it. I used to...” She gave a half-hearted chuckle. “I used to call Fin a pyromaniac. And it was kind of true. She loved testing her limits and seeing what she could do with fire. Kenzie does that too. And I know that doesn’t prove anything. But... it’s like... u know that ‘twin sense’ crap u tease Robin about? That shit’s real. I felt it with Fin, even though we weren’t twins. And I-I feel it with Kenzie too.” She blushed slightly, realizing she’d just ranted big time. “Not to mention...” She leaned into Robin’s ear and whispered harshly. He twitched and looked at the sleeping Kenzie, who hadn’t shifted in Batman’s arm.
Phoebe cleared her throat loudly and everyone turned to her. She turned to Becca. “What was Fin?”
Becca shrugged. “Um... part phoenix?”
Then to Aisling. “How’d she die?”
“As a phoenix?”
To Manta. “Could we find her?”
“From what I’ve heard... No.”
And, finally, to Mercy and Scarlet. “What happens when a phoenix dies?”
Understanding dawned on the fire-casters. “Reincarnation!” they exclaimed happily.
Phoebe nodded, smiling. “Delta is right. Kenzie is Fin, just younger, and with no memories of the past life.”
“How do u know so much about this?” Lucas asked.
“I’m good with mythical stuff.”
Kenzie finally shifted, and became a little awake. She held her hands out to Robin, who obligingly picked her up and hugged her tightly. He began humming a light lullaby.** She was asleep once again in a matter of seconds.
Something caught Delta’s eye on Kenzie’s wrist. It was the charm bracelet that Aisling had found, and it had a locket. A hart-, hart locket. Delta reached into her pocket and found the locked that Phoenix had dropped. She opened it, and found nothing. No pictures. She suddenly recognized the tune that Robin was humming, and when everyone left, they looked at each other and sang the lyrics, Delta opening the locket around Kenzie’s wrist.
She found a picture of Delta, Robin, and Aisling in it, and she smiled.
Once upon a december...
**Authors Note/OOC:Fin’s lullaby is ‘Once Upon a December’ from the movie Anastasia. This isn’t really proven, but her mom sang it to her before she died. So, LOL.
