Elena knows she loves Damon but won't admit it. Stefan knows he loves Katherine but won't admit that either.
In 2x11 deleted scene, Katherine zei that love is waiting. Waiting for that person to give up, and not stopping, even if it mean waiting forever. This is just like Damon.

These two videos are the reasons why I love TVD! I'm a DE fan, and many are SE of BD of SK of TC of MC of whatever...and we all seem to fight and bicker over which ship is best, who should be together, who shouldn't etc. But at the end of the day, we are all just one big TVD family. I feel a lot of people will be mad after the episode but there were still good things for DE! One, even after what happened with Bill and despite the arguing, Elena was still trying to reason with Damon and believe in him.
