"Why compare Harry Potter and Twilight? Why would u compare such different things?" are two vragen this spot has come across often. And to be honest, it irritates the living crap out of me when people ask this.
The media plays a role in things and this debate is no different. On the cover of Breaking Dawn there is a quote from USA Today saying "Move over Harry Potter".(Newsflash, we're not going anywhere) Now, don't tell me that doesn't anger you/ u wouldn't feel angry if u were a Harry Potter fan. "Stephanie Meyer is the new J.K.Rowling." It really pisses me off when people say this because J.K. Rowling spent so much time working on these boeken and all Meyer did was have a wet dream.
Another reason is that people always want to have the best of something. Like,(for lack of a better example) Lindsey Lohan vs Hillary Duff. If u sided with one u did it because u thought one was better than the other. Look, both boeken have topped the charts in bestsellers so comparison are going to happen. So don't act all surprised when it does.
Some fans also find similarities between the two series. Like the Jacob/Bella/Edward love driehoek seemed very similar to the Severus/Lily/James love triangle. There are also similar names such as James, Bella, Charlie, and Alice. Plagiarism isn't right, kids.
Another reason that there are so many Harry Potter/Twilight debates are the actors. There are now two actors between Harry Potter and Twilight. Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory and now plays Edward Cullen in Twilight. Jamie Campbell Bower plays Caius in Twilight and Grindelwald in Harry Potter. So because of these bridges in the series they're open to joking.
But one major thing that always adds fuel to the brand are the fans. For the longest time, the media constantly showed crazed kids and teens waiting for films of boeken from the Harry Potter fans and when Twilight came out they showed the same thing... Just with meer girls and less age range. And we were branded with "Potheads" while the "Twihards" were literally attacking people saying that Twilight was the best book ever.
So it all comes down to who thinks who is better. Really, it's just He zei She said. But it's something we're always going to be living with so get used to it.
*PS I will give major complimenten if anyone can find the link to webpage on a twilight sucks website of police reports on Twilight fans.
