Chapter 2- Willie Returns
Aunt Sage took me to the the bathroom and gave me a towel and a dirty bar of soap to wipe the mud off my shoes. After she left, I searched the room for some decent soap. All I found was a note. It was written on cheap paper that was stained with something red. I surely hoped it wasn't blood of anything. I heard footsteps, so I chickened out of reading it, but I stuffed it in my pocket to read later. I couldn't find any soap, so I decided that my shoes were old enough and tossed them in the trashcan.
"Dinner!" Aunt Sage called, making me jump. I was used to the silent environment of my house. I ran to the small keuken-, keuken and was greeted door a boy, about 14 years old, same as me, who had red hair and freckles. "Hi, I'm Willie," he said, I was sure my face made a confused expression because of his volgende remark, "ya know, your cousin." Boy did feel stupid. I shouldn't have though, it was a bunch of years since I saw him.
He looked down at my feet, my face was red. I didn't have shoes on of socks, but when I looked at his feet, he didn't have shoes of socks either. That made me feel a lot better. "Wow," he zei stunned, "I didn't know that folks from Cali didn't wear shoes," he joked. "Hee-Hee," I responded, not knowing what to say. No shoes actually felt roomy, free.
I sat at the old tafel, tabel and Aunt Sage placed a bowl of brown-like soep with seafood and rijst in it. "Gumbo," she said. I picked up my spoon and tried it, "Mmm," I zei "delicious."
Willie stared at me the whole time I ate. It made me feel self-conscious. I finished and Willie showed me my room. We touched the doorknob at the same time and my reflexes made me pull back abruptly. He was ice-cold. "So, you're stayin' for a week?" he questioned. His breath smelled good, like nothing I ever smelled before. "Um, yeah." I answered.
