#40: Durarara
Odd name aside, this is an anime that I recently started watching. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna tell u that I have no idea what it’s about, because trust me. I definitely know what it’s about. Durarara is about Mikado Ryugamine, who moves to the city of Ikebukuro to live a meer exciting life with his childhood friend, Masaomi Kida. He is warned of many dangerous criminals and gangs, before suddenly running into the Black Rider, but is really an Irish dullahan that is looking for her missing head. Now, what makes this toon so interesting is how it is following each of the characters lives. It shows each on and they are all very interesting. Mikado is hiding a dark secret, Masaomi falls into depression, Anri is unable to love, and much more. The series is really good with tonen the other sides of characters that we have not seen before and it just makes the characters to interesting and loveable. I’ve heard that there is a new series titles Durarara X2. I really hope so, because I want to see meer of this amazingly well-written anime.
#39: Teen Titans
Before u say anything, no, I am not talking about Teen Titans Go. That is the worst cartoon I have ever see, and I’d sooner shove a schroevedraaier, schroevendraaier in my eyes than watch it. No, I am talking about the 2003 version. Teen Titans is about a group of superheroes, being Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven, as they protect the city from supervillains, and occasionally get on each others nerves. The toon was also an American cartoon based off anime, like many other shows. What makes this toon so amazing is that it knows what to do and how to do it right. It is able to have some amazing action scenes, have so great humor, and can even be REAL dark at times. And of course, there’s the villain, Slade. He’s threatening, deadly, completely heartless, and considering the fact he’s voiced Ron Perlman, who did the voice of Hellboy, it just makes it all the meer better. This toon also gave each Teen Titan their own storyark. It showed how their backstory was, tonen how they mature as a character, and tonen the struggles that they face. It really makes u care for these characters. And it works. This was an amazing show, and I will miss it. And it can have a dozen reboots. If they’re ANYTHING like Teen Titans Go, then their not the same… and they suck.
#38: Regular Show
u can not watch this toon and tell me “Yeah, there’s no way they were on drugs when they made it”. Regular toon is about two slackers, named Mordecai, a blue jay, and Rigby, a raccoon. They work as groundskeepers for a park, and all they do is avoid work and try to goof off, which ends up causing a dangerous monster of something to come and try to kill them. This toon just got weird. Like, REALLY weird. Besides Mordecai and Rigby, there are other characters like Benson, a gumball machine who is the manager and has anger problems, Sips, a yeti who also finds Mordecai and Rigby’s laziness a problem, Pops, a jolly man with a lollipop for a head, Muscle Man, an overweight green man. And Hi-Five Ghost, a ghost with one arm on the top, boven of his head…. Did I mention this toon was weird, because it is. However, this toon had some really good humor… even if it wasn’t good for kids. It was still great though. The jokes are always made out of what you’d get if two lazy douchebags got together and did nothing. They make it work so well and it’s so much fun to watch it. All I can say is, this toon is a meer weird, but definitely meer successful Clerks
#37: Adventure Time
Now, when this toon first came out, I thought it sucked. All the fans made it look like some toon that was just stupid and made no damn sense and I didn’t care for it. However, I was forced to watch it with my friends. I watched it, and I instantly enjoyed it. The toon is about a human boy named Finn, the last human alive, in a post-apocalyptic world filled with living objects and monsters as he lives with his talking dog, Jake, who is voiced door John DiMaggio. Like I zei before, if any of your characters are voiced door John DiMaggio, your toon is instantly good. The toon also shows a plethora of amazing characters and monsters. Some being Princess Bubblegum, a young ruler of the Candy Kingdom. The Ice King, an insane old man that kidnaps princesses. Marceline, a vampire girl who I swear people find to be their favoriete character. Even though this toon is meant to be a comedy, it always shows a side of characters that make us sympathise with them. Hell, even the Ice King, the psychotic princess kidnapper, is shown to have a tragic backstory. If I were to know that this toon was going to be this well made, I would have never been angry at the toon to begin with.
#36: Recess
u can not get anymore simple than this show, and yet, this toon still manages to be a classic. The toon is about the lives of six fourth graders. T.J. a prankster and the leader of the group. Ashley, a tomboy. Vince, a populair jock. Gretchen, a genius. Mikey, a large but friendly kid. And Gus, an unlucky kid who is joined military school at one point. What makes the toon so amazing is that the writers take a simple idea such as recess and make it into an interesting idea. The toon is meant to toon freedom, and how kids are able to express themselves and make relationships with all kinds of people. This shows how most kids in their age are, as they grow up and mature throughout their life. It is a very well written show, tonen these kids mature throughout their days, and yet still behave like any other group of fourth graders. And I just got to mention, the movie references are hysterical. From parodying a prison break from The Great Escape, to the genius janitor idea from Good Will Hunting. It’s just brilliant. Recess was a simple idea that managed to become one of Disney’s best shows.
#35: Animaniacs
This toon here is basically Looney Tunes if u were to make it today. The toon is about the Warner Triplets, two brothers named Wakko and Yakko, and their sister Dot, as they have insane misadventures and wreck havoc on whoever they come across. Now, I just got to point this out, that executive producer of this toon was movie making legend Steven Spielberg. If u were to tell me that back in the early 2000s, I would have rushed out and bought all the episodes on DVD. I don’t care if I had to eat ramen for a month. It’s well worth it. The toon also follows classic warner brothers style of humor door having plenty of slapstick. The humor is always able to work so well, and I can’t get enough of it. And, lets not forget all the countless adult jokes. This toon was riddled with secret adult jokes. These jokes were made so adults could also enjoy the show. And how could they not. The toon was also well animated for the early nineties. It had a very fluent and well drawn animatie and I really do like it. All I can say is, I never knew Steven Spielberg could make shows, but if he makes them like Animaniacs, then I’d really like to see him make more.
#34: Johnny Bravo
Holy crap, this toon is just so nostalgic for me. I’m not gonna beat around the struik, bush about what the toon is about. It’s about Johnny, a muscular, yet dimwitted man, who tries so hard to get laid, but only gets rejected countless times to the point where seeing him get beat up is just expected. And even when it’s expected, it’s hilarious. With a premise like that, it’s amazing the toon managed to get past censors. Other characters that appear in the toon is Johnny’s mother, a little girl named Little Suzy, a nerd that looks up to Johnny named Carl (Who happens to be voiced door Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob), a greedy diner owner named Pops, and so much more. The toon also manages to have some amazing guest stars, like Adam West, Shaquille O’Neal, Donny Osmond, and even the Scoob Doo gang. Oh god, this toon had people in stitches. This was easily cartoon networks icoon of the nineties and I really loved the toon for all it did to make people laugh.
#33: Invader Zim
Now, how many of u have heard of Johnny, The Homicidal Maniac. Well, it was a comic book back in 1997 about a young man who commits acts of murder and gets away with it. So, Nickelodeon looked at this and though “Let’s get him to make a kids show”. That resulted in the creation of Invader Zim. The toon is about an alien named Zim, who is sent to Earth to get information so his alien race can try and take it over, but Zim finds it very hard to do so, as he is unable to get used to how Earth works. Along with Zim, there is Dib, a human boy that tries to expose Zim as an alien, Gaz, Dib’s cynical sister, and GIR, who is an idiotic robot, and no doubt the fan favorite. Of course, u can see that the creator of Johnny, The Homicidal Maniac worked on this, as this toon did manage to get really disturbing. And I mean REALLY disturbing. One episode is about where Zim is stealing organs from kids to be meer normal and replaces the organs with “stuff”. Now, even though this toon was a major hit with critics, it didn’t do so well with viewers, and was sadly cancelled after such a short run. And with how violent it was, this toon will likely never air again. Goddamn it Nickelodeon.
#32: Kim Possible
The seconde I heard that catchy theme song for the first time, I knew this toon was going to be awesome. The toon follows a high school girl named Kim, and her clumsy friend, Ron, and his pet naked-mole rat, Rufus, as they have many high school adventures. If I were to tell u that, you’d think it was a stupid girls show… that is until I tell u it is also about them fighting crime as spies and protecting the world from evil Doctor Drakken, as well as other villains such as Monkey Fist, a master of Monkey kung fu, Duff Killigan, a Scottish golfer who attacks people with exploding golf balls, Senor Senior Sr and Jr, a father and son who are very rich, and Professor Dementor, Doctor Drakken’s rival. The villains are so insanely stupid, it’s just funny. The toon also has a very interesting relationship between the two protagonists that I wouldn’t want to spoil. This is a toon that is a perfect example that girls too can be awesome, and it shows perfectly, as this toon managed to make three seasons. Not bad for a cartoon, if u ask me.
#31: The Gregory Horror Show
I want u to look at this show, and tell me what it is. If u zei it was a CGI cartoon, you’re half right. This toon is actually an anime… Let me repeat that. This show… is an anime… Some of u may disagree, saying that this looks nothing like an anime, but u could say the same for Panty and Stocking, yet that was still an anime. The toon (Or, at least the first season, anyway), is about a man who finds himself at a hotel known as Gregory House. Here, he meets the owner, Gregory, a muis who is also insane and loves to psychologically torture his guests. As the series continues, the protagonist meets all sorts of odd characters that either want to harm him, of want nothing to do with him, making him feel completely alone. The characters consist of Neko Zombie, who is a cat that has stitched up eyes, mouth, and ears, and is the only one who is trying to help the protagonist. Then there’s Catherine, a nurse that carries a giant syringe and loves the sight of blood. Then there’s Judgement Boy, a scale that asks people vragen about what they say they’ll do, and what they’ll ACTUALLY do, and he knows when they lie. And when he isn’t asking questions, he sings to himself about… himself. There are many meer character, but we’d be here all dag if I talked about them all. Each episode is only two minuten and thirty seconds. Its about as long as a movie. I’d say check it out, but only if your into the very dark and creepy stuff… like me, of course.
